GIBB was appointed as lead consulting engineers for the development of a mixed land use integrated township targeting low and middle income families.
Cosmo City will be the first fully integrated housing development in South Africa, providing housing for the full economic spectrum group in the same human settlement.
Cosmo City is a greenfield development of 1 105 ha, 25 km North West of the Johannesburg CBD.
Cosmo City will provide:
- 5 000 – low income houses (income group R0 – R3 500)
- 3 000 – financed credit linked houses (income group R3 501 – R7 000)
- 1 000 – social housing rental units (income group R1 500 – R7 500)
- 3 300 – bonded houses (open market)
- 12 – schools
- 40 – sites for churches, clinics and créches
- 43 – parks and recreational sites
- 30 – commercial and retail sites
- 40 ha – industrial park
- 300 ha – environmental area
