Freight Logistics Hub Study

GIBB was appointed to carry out a feasibility study for developing Durban into a “super port” to accommodate more than 8 million teu’s per annum by implementing a system of freight logistics hubs.  The freight logistics hub/s is seen as mechanism to accommodate future growth in commodities by rationalizing existing port and third party logistics operations that is also supplemented with improved transport services and operations in terms of rail and road.

Where appropriate a system of inter-modal freight transfer facilities aimed at container movements to reduce the traffic impact on road infrastructure around the Durban Port and along the routes leading to the ports was investigated.
