Gautrain Rapid Rail Link

Gautrain is a PPP project and GIBB was appointed as one of three consulting companies to act as the Province Support Team (PST).  This team is responsible for looking after the interests of Gauteng Province who are funding the establishment of the railway.  The Gautrain Rapid Rail project links OR Tambo airport to Sandton, Johannesburg and Tswane.  The overall route length is 80 km length and serves 10 stations.  Some 15 km of the route is underground as are three of the stations.

As such GIBB have actively participated in the preparation of the preliminary and feasibility studies; preparation of bid documentation, adjudication of bids, and negotiations with the preferred bidder, leading to the appointment of a Concessionaire.  The Concessionaire is fully responsible for the design, civil construction, M&E procurement, and Operations and Maintenance for the 15 year Concession period.

The PST are currently responsible for providing assurance to the Province that the railway is being built to the standards set out in the Concession Agreement.  This requires the PST to review all of the Concessionaire’s designs, and to monitor the construction and fabrication of all the components making up the railway.
