Helderberg Coastal Sewer

GIBB was appointed in 2003 under a separate contract to investigate and report on options for the disposal of sewage within the Helderberg area.  This project involves the construction of the preferred option called Helderberg Coastal Sewer.

The project involves the provision of design and construction services for approximately 5.8 km of gravity (600 to 1 500 mm diameter) and 3 km of pressure mains (750 and 1 000 mm diameter) between Lourens River pump station and Macassar Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW) and includes the construction of a 12 meter deep pump station and screens approximately half way along the route of the new pipeline. A 2 km long 400 mm diameter pressure pipeline from the Macassar WWTW is included along the route for future use for Return Effluent from the WWTW.

A pipe bridges have been designed where the pipeline crosses the Eerste River. The project also includes upgrading the existing manifold and pumps at Lourens River pump station.
