Selected Project Experience

SOMNICOR – Neves Corvo Santa Barbara Shaft Upgrade

GIBB’s Responsibilities:
GIBB provided optimisation studies to upgrade the shaft at the Santa Barbara Shaft operations at Neves Corvo Mine in Portugal. The changes were to increase hoisting production from 5.4 to 5.6 million t/a. GIBB Mining provided the project management, including the management of sub-consultants and sub-contractors.

Additionally, construction drawings were prepared and continuous onsite assistance was provided for the period leading up to, and including, the shaft shutdown to implement the changes. The work resulted in improvements in the hoist duty cycle, the implementation of infrastructure to reduce shaft downtime during maintenance, and replacement of inefficient equipment.
