The project is located in the Sheffield Business Park, Philippi, Cape Town. GIBB’s tasks on the project included electrical, electronic, mechanical (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), transport and lift engineering.

GIBB undertook the design of structural steel pipe racks, check of the capability of the structures to carry the stresses developed from the process pipe works, design of loading racks, design of steel support platforms to carry process equipment, and check of piled foundation designs for suitability of purpose.

GIBB’s Responsibilities:
GIBB carried out geotechnical investigations for the harbour including site investigations. Additionally, tasks included: design of the haul road and bridge over the N2 National Road, co-ordination and master planning of engineering aspects of the project, transportation planning, engineering services, an Environmental Management Programme for construction and Environmental Management Programme Report for borrow areas.

GIBB’s Responsibilities:
GIBB was appointed to provide the design for structural, electrical and mechanical services for the drilling modules involving structural steel, HVAC, drilling equipment specification and fire protection. GIBB was also involved in the geotechnical engineering of the project which included laboratory testing, risk analyses, testing for an undersea pipeline and testing for a beach crossing.

GIBB provided electrical building services: upgrade of the existing 11kV substation inclusive of MV switches and transformers. Additional tasks included reticulation of overhead cranes, machines and general electrical installation.
