64 MW OF RENEWABLE ENERGY MOVES ONE STEP CLOSER TO OPERATION

Delivering Renewable Energy Projects from Concept to Commercial Operation

A significant milestone has been achieved with the approval of the Generation Registration Certificate for the 64 MW Instatoll Mokgatle Solar PV Facility, with the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) approving the registration application on 18 August 2026. The approval authorizes the operation of the 64 MW solar generation facility in the North West Province and marks an important step in South Africa’s continued energy transition.

At GIBB Mining and Power, we are proud to have played a key role in supporting Instatoll Africa through the technical, regulatory, and grid integration requirements necessary to achieve this critical milestone.

Securing a generation licence or registration is far more than an administrative process. It requires the successful alignment of engineering design, environmental compliance, grid connection requirements, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory submissions. Our multidisciplinary team provided the technical leadership and engineering expertise required to navigate these complexities and support the project’s journey toward approval.

This achievement reflects GIBB’s capability to deliver end-to-end energy infrastructure solutions, including:

  • Renewable energy project development support
    • Power system and grid integration studies
    • Grid connection and Eskom interface management
    • Regulatory and licensing support
    • Electrical engineering design and technical assurance
    • Stakeholder coordination and project delivery management

The successful registration of this facility demonstrates the value that experienced engineering partners bring to renewable energy projects, helping developers de-risk investments, accelerate approvals, and achieve commercially viable outcomes.

As South Africa continues to invest in cleaner and more sustainable energy infrastructure, GIBB Power and Mining remains committed to enabling projects that strengthen energy security, support economic growth, and contribute to a lower-carbon future.

Congratulations to the Instatoll Africa team and all project stakeholders who contributed to this achievement.

“At GIBB, we don’t simply design energy infrastructure; we help our clients successfully navigate the path from concept, through compliance and grid integration, to commercial operation.”
