Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme

GIBB was appointed to design and monitor the construction of a 1 344 MW pumped storage scheme in the Drakensburg of South Africa. The design and construction included an upper reservoir (50 m high CFRD dam) and lower reservoir (40 m high RCC dam), an underground power house complex, with access tunnels and associated waterways which link the two reservoirs.

GIBB was appointed to be a member of the transaction advisory team for public-private partnerships on the Gauteng Rapid Rail Link Project in Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.

GIBB acted as the Environmental Impact Practitioner in terms of the application for Environmental Authorisation. This included managing the scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment process over a 10 year period, compilation of an Environmental Management Programme, Public Participation process and input into appeal responses.

GIBB acted as the lead consulting engineer for this project. It entailed the development of a mixed land use integrated township with a proposed 12 300 stands, which targeted low and middle income families.

GIBB, as part of the Joint Venture responsible for the design and preparation of the stadium for the 2010 World Cup Soccer, was responsible for electrical engineering and lighting design.
