GIBB Power announces Managing Director

Leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy company, GIBB, is excited to announce the appointment of Kiren Maharaj as Managing Director of GIBB Power, a subsidiary of GIBB Holdings PTY LTD, Maharaj assumed her role effective 4 March 2019.

Maharaj is a seasoned professional in the power space having held several high-level roles in major companies in the energy sector, including ESKOM. An entrepreneur, Kiren also started her own businesses to take advantage of opportunities in the power space.

Maharaj obtained her B Compt through UNISA and received her Postgraduate Degree, MBA, through Wits Business School. In 2017 she completed a Certificate Programme in Leadership Coaching at Wits Business School, which includes volunteer coaching for current MBA students.

In October 2018, EDF, one of the world’s leading electricity companies, and GIBB, a leading engineering player in Africa signed agreements for the French-owned utility, EDF, to invest in GIBB Power. By building on the skills of GIBB’s energy division and on EDF’s multi-skill expertise, GIBB Power, which is owned 70 % by GIBB and 30% by EDF, aims to become a reference-engineering platform, specialising in supporting energy projects and offering solutions to the challenges of energy transition in Africa.

The powerful partnership sees GIBB’s wealth of knowledge spanning over 60 years in the design, planning and management of infrastructure projects in various sectors combining with EDF’s global expertise in all areas of the business: generation, transmission, distribution, energy supply and trading.  The EDF Group is involved in supplying energy and services to approximately 35.1 million customers, of which 26.5 million are in France. The Group generated consolidated sales of €70 billion in 2018. EDF is also recognised locally for its historic cooperation with ESKOM and its investment in wind power and rural electrification projects. r
